The Forest Folk

by Ethan Phillips

I have been fascinated by the details, the small moments, and the pieces of life that go unnoticed by most people. This fascination, coupled with my love of literature, legends, and storytelling, spurred me to create my own small world populated by small, bug-shaped creatures...

Deep within the forested vales, amid the ruins and rubble of a long-dead civilization, live the forest-folk. A hearty people, these strange little bug-spirits scavenge what they can from the remnants and remains of the beings known only as “Those Who Came Before”. Prominent scholars among the forest-folk claim that “Those Who Came Before” were a race of giant, exoskeleton-less beings capable of moving mountains and felling trees with a single blow. Such stories, however, are but dusty legends for scholars to pore over. Most members of the folk do not concern themselves with such trivial tales. Instead, they focus on much more important matters. Pilgrimage, trade, exploration, and fine dining are just some of the things the forest-folk enjoy doing. For when you are as small as a mushroom, every rock is a mountain, every puddle is an ocean, and every tree a world of its own.
